Use your own domain

Your site starts on a free anypress.site address. You can switch it to a domain you own, like yourbusiness.com or shop.yourbusiness.com, at any time.

Steps #

  1. Go to your account and choose Manage website next to the site.
  2. Under Website Details, the page shows the DNS records your domain needs:
    • for a domain like example.com, an A record for each address shown;
    • for a subdomain like shop.example.com, one CNAME record.
  3. Add those records where your domain is managed: the company you bought it from, or Cloudflare.
  4. Type your domain in Domain Name and choose Update.

The secure (https) connection is set up for you. Your old anypress.site address keeps working for a few minutes while the site switches over.

Connect automatically #

Once your domain is entered, many DNS hosts show a Connect automatically button. It opens your DNS host, which adds the records for you after you approve. If your host doesn’t support this, the page shows the records to add by hand.

If one-click setup would clash with records your domain already has, the page tells you why and what to do instead.

Good to know #

  • Changes to DNS can take a little while to reach everyone, usually minutes and sometimes a few hours.
  • Want email to come from your domain too? See Send email from your own domain.
  • Stuck? Email support@anypress.io with your site name and domain.

Frequently Asked Questions #

Your domain #

  • What address does my site start with?

Every site starts on a free address ending in anypress.site, with a secure (https) connection. You can keep it or switch to your own domain whenever you like.

  • How do I use my own domain?

Sign in to Your websites. Under “Using your own domain” you’ll find the records to add where your domain is managed (the company you bought it from, or Cloudflare). Add them, then change your site’s address on the account page. The secure connection is set up for you, and the old address keeps working for a few minutes while it switches.
